Berlin, December 10th, 2020 – The just recently founded initiative shift2030 has joined FENIX as associated partner and brings valuable intermodal expertise to the consortium. “This is a good fit, as intermodal data and transport flows are covered in various pilot site of this project “, says Eusebiu Catana, FENIX project coordinator”. The transport sector is crucial for achieving the EU climate targets. “In the short to medium term, rail is the only transport mode that can significantly reduce GHG emissions of the sector,” says Sebastian Ruckes, Executive Director of the recently founded non-profit organization shift2030. The EU is developing a new common data platform for logistics within the FENIX project. The project partners use Deutsche Telekom’s Data Intelligence Hub for this. The new “data network” links all logistics partners within the EU and connects supply chains, flows of goods and modes of transport, minimizing bottlenecks in the logistical supply of EU Member States. The common platform simplifies the exchange of information across European borders while protecting the environment.

Many companies have recognized the need to act and are already actively involved in working towards digitalization. Sebastian Ruckes, Manager Business Development at TX Logistik, reports: “In current projects such as in the EU project “FENIX”, we show the digital information flow of timetables integrated into cross-mode transportation planning in the Rotterdam-Genoa corridor. Even today, the know-how and the digital skills of all project partners such as the PTV Group and TX Logistik, are being included here.”
